Enterprises are no longer foggy when it comes to cloud computing. The past year saw more than 53% of companies already leveraging public cloud resources. As the cloud matures, hotel operators will be looking to leverage the cloud in new and exciting ways to run their operations better, smarter, and more cost-effectively. Cloud-based hotel operating solution (Hotel OS) provider SkyTouch Technology shares the following key cloud computing trends to watch out for in 2015:
Containerization. Operations teams will strategically containerize different parts of an application in order to better manage and advance them as distinct parts. They will work with these parts separately while keeping all of the system parts working in sync. With Docker’s open source container virtualization framework creating a lot of buzz in 2014, expect this trend to continue as more providers climb aboard the containerization bandwagon.
DevOps. The union of development and operational teams will significantly advance cloud computing. The cohesive environment of the cloud is more conducive to these resources working hand-in-hand. A recent survey shows that 80% of developers with experience working with DevOps said continuous delivery was critical to the future success of their organizations.
Enhanced Security. With large amounts of data and enterprise workloads moving to the cloud, security will remain at the forefront of everyone’s minds. The industry will see a major shift toward building security that can accompany the movements of a system. CIOs will remain focused on ingraining software-defined security into data centers to protect their critical workloads.
Hybrid Cloud Operations. As cloud operations become more sophisticated, hybrid systems will become the new norm. Hotels of all sizes will find that a combination of private and public assets will help them achieve greater efficiency, security, and profitability.
IoT. The convergence of the cloud, IoT (the Internet of Things) and big data is expected to usher in a new era of threats and opportunities. With everything from wearables to tablets connected to the cloud, we can expect to see an influx of new challenges with providers racing to provide solutions to help hotels manage the huge volume of data streaming through the cloud.
The above trends illustrate that the time for cloud adoption has arrived! With barriers to cloud adoption rapidly diminishing, hotels are increasingly jumping on board to achieve new efficiencies and reap a myriad of benefits.
