In previous posts we’ve talked about the rising growth and technological advantages of cloud computing across all industries, especially in hospitality brands like hotels. For those who might not be completely up to speed on the latest cloud technology services, we’re going to break it down in a simple overview that will help you understand the important issues.
Cloud computing helps businesses, individuals, and institutions move much of their hardware needs away from traditional storage methods of large servers and data centers to information “in the cloud.” This lets users access their data and software from anywhere without having the connectivity issues of plugging into a server. For example, SkyTouch Technology® uses cloud computing to let business owners run their hotel operations from a mobile device like an iPad or other type of tablet or a smartphone. A reliable WiFi or Internet connection is all you need to keep your business technology up and running.
There are three major types of cloud computing: Private, Public, and Hybrid. They each offer distinct advantages and opportunities depending on what you are trying to achieve.
Public
These are data centers that lie outside a company’s firewall. With a public Internet connection, you can access a public cloud center to get the information you need.
Private
These information centers are kept behind a business firewall to ensure their access is limited to those inside a company. This version of cloud computing could be part of a larger public data center, but one that’s locked behind a firewall within that system so only certain users can access it.
Hybrid
This type of cloud computing blends both private and public types to create a mix of data inputs.
